ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Matthew
Bergquist.

Founder, Nomad Software Group

I’m building Nomad OS, the software behind Nomad Software Group’s research, to help turn data into evidence people can use to make decisions.

In a helicopter cockpit, with mountains visible through the windshield.

MY BACKGROUND

From Army aviation to fintech.

I grew up in Connecticut and spent twelve years in the United States Army, including ten as a Chinook helicopter pilot. My service included a deployment to Afghanistan in 2013.

After leaving the military, I transitioned into fintech, where I’ve spent the past eight years. I’m now also building Nomad Software Group and developing Nomad OS.

THE WORK

Building Nomad.

I’m developing Nomad OS as a solo founder. My focus is on analytical work that people can examine: the question being asked, the calculation behind an answer, and the limits of what that answer supports.

That approach shaped The Price of the Grade, my first published study powered by Nomad OS. It examines reported Raw, PSA 9 and PSA 10 card prices across thirty selected player markets, with a companion document explaining the methods and results.

IN THE HOBBY

The teams I follow and collect.

I’m a New York Jets, UConn basketball, and U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team fan. Those are also the teams I focus on in my personal card collection.

THE APPROACH

Work people can trust and use.

I want NSG’s work to be useful and open to informed scrutiny. That means explaining where the data comes from, keeping conclusions tied to the evidence, and giving readers enough detail to challenge the analysis.
